Un Chien Andalou

Louis Bunuel's famous collaboration with Salvidor Dali, I've just sent off for a copy of this on DVD, I love the nonsensical randomness of it all. The anti-narrative approach using no plot, no rational story-line, no real literal or allegorical explanation, a cacophony of disjointed shots.

I guess Un Chein Andalou is the template for a lot of contemporary video artists, the cut and paste montages, the atmospheric artwork shown in rapid succession, the iconic shot of a man slicing through the eye of an unflinching young woman, merged with the visual of a cloud cutting across the center of the moon. (OK Bunel used a calf eye but this film as given me an eye phobia ever since!).
